Title: Becoming His Master
Series: Neighborly Affection #4
Author: M.Q. Barber
Genre: Adult, M/M Erotica
Release Date: March 17, 2015
Published By: Lyrical Press
From rescue to romance…
Teach a wounded submissive the value of his service. The task ought to be an easy one for an experienced dominant like Henry Webb.
But novice Jay Kress challenges his teacher like no other. Still bearing the bruises of an encounter outside the bounds of safe consensual play, Jay is desperate to submit to the man who saved him—and shamed by his desires.
Henry recognizes the dangers of a relationship built on hero worship. He’ll teach Jay how to stay safe, that’s all. He won’t take advantage of the younger man’s trust. He won’t share his fantasies about his dark-haired, athletic student. He’ll never claim this submissive for his own…
Becoming His Master (R) Excerpt © M.Q. Barber 2015
Henry’s watch
showed quarter to eight as he mounted the stairs toting carryout meals for
himself and his submissive. The hour found the second floor a modest hive of
activity as players donned their preferred personas and headed upstairs to the
sandbox. Eventually, he too would join the procession, with Jay in tow. For
now, he turned right and stepped through the wide double doors into the salon.
The area set aside
for himself and young Mr. Kress showed Emma’s unmistakable influence. Tucked
into the farthest corner of the room, a three-panel screen of wood and fabric
created a private dining nook. Best pray the younger man didn’t recognize the
scenes depicted, though the intent shouted for all and sundry to pay heed.
A pair of
yellow-ribboned women cast admiring glances his way. Muting his growl, he
stepped past them with a curt headshake. Won’t
interfere, my ass.
A paean to Greek
mythology and literature graced each panel. Achilles and Patroclus circled each
other with shields and spears, their sandaled feet the only flesh not on view.
Apollo strummed his lyre while a boy—Hyacinth, given the field of flowers—lay at
his feet. Beautiful Ganymede proffered a cup beneath the sheltering wings of
Zeus-as-eagle.
Stalking across
the room, he considered the ready excuses sure to be on Emma’s lips. A shield
to keep the boy from prying eyes, lest his table manners prove less than
impeccable. Hadn’t he himself insisted on protecting Jay from possible
criticism? No, of course the scenes hadn’t been deliberate. Convenience had
dictated the choice. In no way had she meant to imply Jay Kress was his eromenos.
His beloved boy.
His to mentor and protect. His sweet lips to kiss, his beautiful thighs to
fuck.
Cock pressing at
his fly, he swore in silence. Was there no mercy to be found?
He rounded the
screen.
Jay sprang to his
feet.
No. No mercy at
all.
Despite Emma’s
claim, his student wore a suit as well as he wore leather shorts. Temptation
beat at him, an unrelenting pressure, the image of his submissive on his knees
with the same earnest delight on his face.
He forced himself
to turn and deposit the bag on the table. Slow and easy.
“You’ve set a
lovely table.” He told himself navy wasn’t Jay’s color, despite the good sense
he’d shown to pair his suit with a solid white shirt and a pale blue tie with a
diagonal thin-stripe in white. “I trust your wait has been a pleasant one?”
“Yes, Master
Henry.” Jay stood straight and tall, a slender vision of grace. “Mistress Emma
showed me what to do.”
“It’s just Emma,
my boy. No title. She’s a submissive here, as you are.” He unpacked the tote.
Salads first, the light containers atop the others.
“But she’s in
charge of things.” Jay tilted his head. He started to roll his shoulders before
stopping himself.
Warm foil
container deposited on the table, Henry paused in his work to study his
submissive with more care. “Yes, she handles some functions at the club.” The
neat half-Windsor had to be Emma’s doing. “She also submits to her husband.”
Likewise, the white rose boutonniere pinned with Jay’s red ribbon, the symbol
of his ownership. The younger man’s purity and innocence bound under his protection
and control.
Pinned. Of course.
“Tell me, how many
pins did it take until Emma was satisfied with the drape of your jacket?”
“I’m not sure,
Master Henry.” Jay half-smiled, his eyes shining. “She made me stand still for
a long time, though. Do you like it?”
With such an
enticing invitation, he smoothed the fabric from the lapel to the right
shoulder.
Jay caught his
breath and rocked his hips.
“Quite handsome,”
he murmured. Such promising responses his pupil gave, eager physicality
impossible to miss. “But you cannot relax, can you? Afraid you’ll disrupt her
handiwork if you so much as breathe too deeply.”
“I don’t mind,
Master Henry.” If you like it, he
didn’t say, though the worship in his gaze made the words unnecessary.
Humming, he traced
the edge of the lapel downward and unfastened the button holding the jacket
closed. “I mind.” Hanging the jacket on the chair back wouldn’t do any harm.
“Your comfort is my responsibility during our time together.”
He pushed the coat
from the boy’s shoulders. He’d remove his own to ensure his dinner partner felt
no awkwardness.
“No, no, please.”
Jay clutched at the fabric, fighting the motion, his voice rising. “Master
Henry, please.”
What the devil was
he—
“Please don’t take
my ribbon, I’m your good boy, I’m yours—”
Henry kissed him.
He knew the
instant their lips touched he ought not have done it.
Soft and pliant,
the younger man opened his mouth with a throaty little whimper.
Irresistible. A
possessive haze descended, snarling heat pushing out from his center. He ground
his cock against his submissive and claimed his mouth.

Review

**ARC Provided by NetGalley for honest review**

I honestly chose this book partially for the cover, it caught my eye but the story line intrigued me. An unknown author to me, I took the leap. It was worth it. What an amazingly deep story. One that I thoroughly enjoyed. I was introduced to deep BDSM after reading Fifty Shades, found an author who excelled at writing BDSM and through her, I learned the ins and outs of BDSM play so my previous knowledge helped with this story.

After reading this story, I investigated the author and found this is book four in the Neighborly Affection Series. Obviously this is a stand alone, otherwise I would be lost, but I am now eager to go back to book one and begin this series and learn more about Jay and Henry.

Jay, a young man abused by an egotistical bully of a dominant. Henry, a Dominant, a Master, who respects the rights of the submissive and dominant relationship. Victor, the club owner who sees the need to pair the two men together, not just to help Jay heal but to help Henry as well. Henry finds Jay in his greatest time of need, more than once. How many times will Henry save Jay though?

This story is deep. The more I read the deeper I went into the story with Ms. Barber. The deeper I fell for Henry and Jay. Ms. Barber describes the relationship of the dom/sub in a marvelous way, laying out the importance of the submissive to protect themselves. Henry teaches Jay to be safe and negotiate in a way that he has final say in the scene. One might think of a dom/sub scene as dominant controlled when really, as Henry teaches us, the submissive gives him or herself to the dominant and the submissive controls the scene. I really enjoyed Henry reaching Jay to be safe and protect himself, before the healing from the trauma began.

The struggle in Henry’s heart was a fascinating one, I truly wasn’t sure how this struggle would play out. I hoped for the happy ending, but that could have gone in two different directions depending on the “happy” I was hoping for. Henry tried so very hard to keep his feelings aside, knowing that Jay’s safety was his focus. I admired the way he was able to do that. Not easy separating oneself when you are so close, physically, to them as Henry was. Henry obviously is a strong character, and while I though Jay was the weaker of the two, I was pleasantly surprised when Jay found his voice and shared his feelings, finally.

This book was a pleasant surprise for me. I have already ordered book one to start from the beginning. I do not mind BDSM or M/M books and this was written very well. Another new favorite author for sure!

USA Today bestselling author M.Q. Barber likes to get lost in thought. She writes things down so she can find herself again.
Often found staring off into space or frantically scratching words on sticky notes, M.Q. lives with one very tolerant, easily amused husband and one very tolerant, easily amused puppy.
She has a soft spot for romances that explore the inner workings of the heart and mind alongside all that steamy physical exertion. She loves memorable characters, witty banter, and heartfelt emotion in any genre.

He doesn’t care about the wealth and opportunity his father offers.

Racing car mechanic Lucas Renner never expected his biological father to start acknowledging him as a son and only heir. He bet the old man has ulterior motives that has nothing to do with wanting to develop a relationship with him. He refuses to make contact with the man who has rejected him all his life… until his father’s message is hand-delivered by a blushing beauty who stirred him in the right places.

She cares about keeping her job.

Jade Tully thanks her lucky stars for her new role as the personal assistant to a wealthy CEO. Heaven knows she needs it. But she doesn’t anticipate getting entangled in the personal conflict between her eccentric boss and his extremely hunky son—a man who rattles her poise and melts her heart. She wants to help bring father and son together. But if she continues to do her boss’s bidding, would she lose Lucas’ trust and her chance to capture his heart?

The Unwilling Executive can be enjoyed as a stand-alone or as part of the Captured by Love series.

This book is for adults only. It contains hot sexual scenes.

excerpt

Lucas stared at the signature line of the printed letter. Scrawled in black ink were three unmistakable words: Your father, Thomas.

Heat rose to his face and he didn’t bother hiding his scowl.

“This is from Thomas Bilton,” he said accusingly to the brunette in front of him.

“Yes,” Jade said with a hint of apprehension. “I’m his new PA.”

“I don’t appreciate being conned like this,” he rasped, slitting his eyes.

“Conned? I don’t understand,” she said, her eyes rounding.

He crumpled the sheet and put it in his pocket. “Did you type the letter?” he grunted as he took a couple of bills from his wallet and dropped them on the table.

“No. Mr. Bilton must have typed it himself,” Jade answered, sounding nervous. “I don’t know anything about it. He just told me to come here and hand it to you.”

He inhaled deeply, scrutinising Jade. She held his gaze, looking bewildered… and damned attractive. It was a pity she worked for Thomas Bilton.

“I wouldn’t have turned up if I knew this was Bilton’s doing,” he said, standing up. “I don’t mean to be rude, but I’m leaving now.”

“Wait, Lucas, please,” Jade said, rising to her feet. “Could you please just read it? I’m supposed to relay your answer back to Mr. Bilton.”

He snorted.

“Please, Lucas,” she said quietly. “He told me it’s imperative that you read it.”

Something in Jade’s tone made Lucas pause, and he found himself pulling the letter out and smoothing it. Admittedly, this whole business of a beautiful woman hand-delivering him a letter made him curious as to its contents.

He read it and his lips twisted. The old man was good. He penned quite a moving piece—if Lucas didn’t know any better. But he did. Thomas Bilton was simply trying to manipulate him to protect his reputation.

He shoved the paper back in his pocket. “You said you don’t know what this is all about?”

Jade shook her head.

“So if your boss tells you to jump off a cliff, you’d do it without any question?”

Jade’s face reddened. “Of course not. I didn’t ask questions because he said it was a private matter.”

“So you’re the kind of person who doesn’t care if your job requires you to lie, as long as you get paid good money for it.” Why he felt the need to goad the truth out of her, he didn’t know.

Jade lifted her chin up in defiance. “I’m sorry, but I never lied to you. I was simply following instructions to meet you.”

They glared at each other, and Lucas felt his anger start to evaporate. Jade’s expression seemed honest enough. And hell, her captivating face was distracting him. Those long lashes that framed her beautiful hazel eyes didn’t seem embellished by mascara. And her lips—full and sexy, and—

“I need your answer, Lucas,” Jade said.

The bitter taste came rushing back in his mouth. “My answer is no. And if the circumstances were different, I would have said it was a pleasure meeting you, Jade Tully.”

Then he walked off.

my review

**Arc received for honest review**

This is my first book by Miranda Charles and I was pleasantly surprised.

This story focuses on Jade Tully and Lucas Renner. Jade works for Lucas’ father and helps Mr. Bilton connect with Lucas, who doesn’t know the Bilton is his father. Jade works hard to be honest and open but Lucas doubts her intentions. The couple must build trust between each other before a relationship can build. That becomes the focus in the story. The relationship takes time to build, seemed to be too long to me but the end justified the means in my opinion.

I mentioned trust before. Lucas doesn’t trust anyone and yet something about Jade made him want to trust her. To read the letter she presented in their first meeting. I can say I honestly expected her character to do something on the opposite spectrum. I expected her to become something she doesn’t. I’m pleased with the way the author wrote her story.

Lucas must make some big changes before he is ready for Jade to look at him seriously. He struggles with his own feelings and must decide if Jade is worth the effort. Can he change? His mother knows Jade since she buys flowers for her sister-in-law from Ruby’s flower shop. The shop becomes a meeting place for Lucas to meet Jade, taking advantage of her flower buying days.

The characters are written well, very believable. The sex between them is beautiful and respectfully written. Sensual most times, you could tell Lucas respected her and wanted to make her happy. I just wish the two hadn’t waited so long to “kiss and make up” per say. It seemed like forever for them to fix their problem, don’t want to give anything away.

I liked the book, giving it four stars. I would recommend this to someone looking for a new erotic romance book.

Meet the Author

I’ve loved reading romance novels since my early teenage years. My auntie used to send me boxes of her books and I would devour them one after another. Every so often, I would read a mystery or a suspense or a paranormal novel as I love those genres too. But romance is still my favourite.

For many years, I wrote technical and non-fiction materials for professional use and had only dreamt about writing a novel. Then, one day, after a period of binge-reading sexy romances, I decided to sit in front of my computer and start writing my first fiction book. The result? My debut novel, “Will To Love”, the first in the hot and sexy Lifestyle by Design series. After that, I knew that I’d love to write more beautiful love stories.

I live in Sydney, Australia with my amazing husband who lovingly cheers me on in my journey as a writer.

#BookRelease #NewRead ~ When Fate Isn’t Enough by Isabelle Richards ~ @88IsabelleR @InkslingerPR #Dreamcast “Someone broke your heart, Lily. It’s my job to put it back together.”

WFIE BT Banner

Still catching up on the recent releases of some really hot books…I have another one for you to check out.

When Fate Isn’t Enough by Isabelle Richards

broken heart_edited-1

Exclusive Excerpt:

Oxford in a suit… hot damn. It’s obviously a custom job because it fits him perfectly, showing off his broad shoulders and tight, toned torso. The allure of the suit is more than just the way it highlights his ridiculous body. His commanding presence while wearing it, the air of confidence that surrounds him. Everything about him screams “power”. Or more accurately it screams, “Don’t fuck with me or I’ll destroy you.” I may not give a shit about his money but power seems to be a bigger turn on than I would have expected.

“What? What’s wrong?” He looks in the mirror, trying to figure out what isn’t working.

“Your ass in those pants! I can hardly contain myself. How does anyone get any work done? All your female employees must just swoon with you strutting around like that. I bet you actually stop traffic. You do, don’t you?”

A sexy smirk spreads across his face. “Trousers, Lily. They’re called trousers. I can assure you I’m a slave driver. My employees are too busy to notice me.” He straightens his tie and looks back at me. “And only occasionally.”

“Occasionally what?”

He winks. “Occasionally I stop traffic.”

I throw a pillow at him. “You’re an arrogant bastard, you know that?”

He sits on the edge of the bed and slips his shoes on. “Hey, you asked! Don’t ask a question unless you can handle the answer.”

I scoot down on the bed and wrap my arms around his stomach. I rest my chin on his shoulder and say, “You’re just lucky I’m prohibited from attacking you, or there’s no way in hell you would be leaving this bedroom. Not for a good long while anyway.”

He peels my arms off of him, stands, and then kisses each of my hands. “I’m going to hold you to that after the doctor clears you.” He walks to his dresser and puts his watch on.

I smirk. “Oh, you’ll be holding something to me all right.”

Gavin closes his eyes and leans against the wall. “You’ll be the death of me, woman. Can’t you talk about football or skiing or carpentry? Anything other than… this?”

“You want to show me what you can do with a hammer, Gavin?” I bat my eyes at him.

He glares at me.

I cock my head and flash him a coy smile. “What? You said carpentry,” I say innocently. “Fine, soccer? You want to come over here so I can show you how to score? I’m sure you’re amazing at getting it in the goal! No? Not better?” I explode into laughter as he storms out of the room.

“Goodbye, Lily,” he yells from the hallway.

I don’t know what he’s so pissy about. I’m just as sex starved as he is! I lie down and close my eyes for a few moments, mentally calming my libido. Suddenly, I feel his weight on me, and he kisses me with a passion that literally takes my breath away. I feel my heart pounding as if it’s going to fly out of my chest.

I pull back. “You change your mind about staying in bed with me all day?”

“If only, Lily. If only. I couldn’t leave without a proper goodbye.”

“Well that was one hell of a sendoff. You’d better go. Don’t want to be late. I hear your boss is a real bastard.”

He kisses my forehead and walks out the door. Damn, that man knows how to make an exit.

Alexis and Colt never planned on crossing paths.
Alexis and her three year old daughter were running from their past and Colt was looking for his future.
Neither planning to find salvation in one another.
One night changed it all…
And they had no hope of ever being the same again.
Finding a way to make things work, when it feels like everything is against them, is something they will have to work hard to overcome.
Will Colt be strong enough to handle Alexis’s past?
Or will it be too much?
Prologue:
“Mommy, I’m hungry,” Maddison spoke from behind me. The
sound of her sweet little voice only made my heart ache more intensely.
“I know, baby. Mommy will find you something real soon. I
promise.” I slowed the car to a stop and reached for the bag in the passenger
seat beside me. Digging around, I pulled out the package of crackers I had
taken from our last stop.
Turning around, looking back at my sweet little girl, I
forced a smile. The last thing I wanted her to see was how unsettled I felt
inside. She looked so tired, and seeing that in her eyes made me feel like a
worthless mother.
Tearing the package open, I handed her the two crackers.
“Here, sweet pea, eat these for now. I know it’s not much, but I’ll get ya
something else real soon, okay?”
Maddison nodded her head and took the crackers from me. “Do
you still have juice left in your cup?” I asked, and she nodded her sleepy little
head once again. “Good, we’ll be stopping real soon.”
Turning back to face forward, I took in a deep breath and
began looking around. I had passed a sign that read “Welcome to Brooklet” about
a mile back. As I looked around, I found myself wondering if there was even a
hotel here in this small town. It was definitely a big change from San
Diego.
With only a little over two hundred dollars left to my name,
I knew I had to make it last. The thought of not being able to take care of
Maddison made me sick to my stomach.
I had no choice; I couldn’t go back. I had to leave, had to
hide out. He had crossed a line that could never be fixed. A life like we were
living had to stop. I couldn’t go on in fear any longer; we deserved so much
more than that.
I knew I was taking a chance by going back home to Palm
Beach, but I needed my family more than ever. I knew it would be the first
place he would look, but it was the only place I could go.
Keeping Maddi safe came first. It was my job, and for the
last six months, I had failed her and the memory of her daddy, Troy.
So the choice to leave in the middle of the night, when Seth
least expected it, was an easy one to make. A choice I would never regret, no
matter how much I had to sacrifice.
Maddi needed stability and security. When she had that, my
needs would come, but not until then. “I need to potty, Mommy,” Maddison
announced from the backseat.
The decision had just been made; it looked like we would
stop in Brooklet for now, at least for tonight.
Looking around for a place to stop, I pulled into the
parking lot of a small restaurant. It was just after seven at night, and the
lot appeared deserted. Two vehicles were parked up close to the entrance. The
rest of it was empty.
Holding Maddison’s hand securely in mine, we walked side by
side toward the entrance.
The smell of grease engulfed me when I opened the door, and
it smelled amazing. It had been hours since I had last eaten anything.
“Is it just the two of you?” an older woman with a genuine
smile asked. I nodded my head as she led us to a small booth in the back.
“Do you have a restroom my little girl could use?” I asked
as I looked around the small dining area.
“Just down that hall, to your left. Can I get anything
started for the two of you?” she questioned.
“Yeah, um, a grilled cheese and chocolate milk if ya got
it?” I replied as I led Maddi toward the bathroom.
“What are you having darlin’?” she hollered after me.
“Nothing thanks. I’m not hungry,” I said over my shoulder as
I nudged Maddi along. I forced a smile as I hurried toward the bathroom.
“Mommy, your tummy is growling.” Maddi looked up at me as I
continued to guide her toward the back.
“No, baby. Mommy ate this morning. I’m good,”
I assured her.
I had decided when we left San Diego that I would only allow
myself one meal a day. Even though I would kill for a juicy burger and fries, I
had to use my head. The money had to last until I found a source of
income.
When we made our way back to our table, I thought for a
moment we were at the wrong one.
There was a large salad at one side, and on the other a bowl
of applesauce. A large soda with a cup of chocolate milk sat in the center.
I stood looking around in confusion, just as the lady who
greeted us put a plate of fries on the table. “Ma’am, I didn’t order all this.
I can’t…” I began to say, as panic set in. She held up her hand to stop me.
“Don’t you worry yourself over it darlin’. It’s all been
taken care of.” She grinned and nudged her head toward the door.
I looked up just as a tall, broad man pushed open the door.
He tipped his head toward me and winked, a dimpled grin gracing his lips. I
stood staring at him until he disappeared through the exit.
“That sweet man just bought the two of you dinner.” She
placed her hand on my shoulder and gave it a reassuring squeeze. “There’s kind
people out there, sweetheart. Colt Thompson is a good man.”
Her final words left an emptiness in my chest. A good
man. I wasn’t sure they existed anymore.
Besides my father, I didn’t know many others. Troy,
Maddison’s father, was a good man—a man who gave his life for his country and
never got the chance to know he was gonna be a father.
My brother was also a good man, but other than those few, I
was starting to feel as though good men were only mythical.

“I presume it’s okay with everyone if I just hang around here with you guys for a couple of days.”

Everyone responds with a “No problem.” I look across to Nikki and say, “Don’t worry rock star, I won’t cramp your style. I know where we stand. I won’t get all jealous if you hook up with groupies or whatever.”

Nikki looks at me, frowns angrily and mumbles back, “Trix, I know we’re not serious, but why the hell would I want to hook up with some random groupie when you’re here?”

“Oh I don’t know, I just don’t want you to feel that you’re obligated to me at all. I’m here visiting Eve and I’m just going to hang-out and have some fun. I don’t want you to think I’m here just to see you.”

As soon as I hear it coming out of my mouth I know it sounds really harsh.

Hansen chuckles, “Fuck that stings.”

As I look around the room the other guys all have raised eyebrows and cringes on their faces. I look at Nikki who just looks totally pissed.

Me and Nikki are moving way too quickly. I can feel myself getting too attached and that shit needs to stop now. This thing between us was supposed to be just a hook-up, nothing serious, just fun.

Nikki shakes his head, gets up and skulks off towards one of the bedrooms shutting the door behind him. Shit, what the hell! Now I’ve hurt his feelings?

Eve frowns at me and shakes her head with a scolding look on her face. The rest of the guys look a bit shocked and are glancing between each other awkwardly.

“What?” I screech. “This is ridiculous. Y’all are looking at me as if I’ve kicked a puppy or something.”

I hear Cody mumble, “Only if the puppy’s got black floppy hair, big brown eyes and its name is Nikki.”

I mutter under my breath, “Shit.”

There are a few minutes of awkward near-silence then everyone starts to chat casually again. After about half an hour Nikki comes back in and slinks down into a seat on the opposite side of the room to me, completely avoiding eye contact. Hell, this is precisely the reason why I said we should keep it casual, now it’s just awkward.

After a while Scott says his goodnights and heads off to his room. Hansen gets up and raises his chin to Cody. “Come on Sticks, let’s go out and find a club or something. I have a hankering for some loud music, whisky and loose women.”

Cody gets up and claps his hands enthusiastically, “Sounds like a fucking brilliant idea. This shit’s getting a bit too heavy and domesticated for my taste.”

Cody and Hansen head towards the door. Nikki jumps up and glances quickly at me, but avoids eye contact. “Hold up guys, I’m comin’ too. I could do with a bit of fun.” All three of them head out the door.

Alrighty then! I guess I’ve been well and truly put in my place. Eve looks at me with a ‘you-brought-this-on-yourself’ smirk as she shrugs her shoulders. Ash looks at me with pity.

Before this gets really awkward I jump up and put on a fake smile. “Right, I might just head down to the bar for a while to have some fun of my own. Don’t you kids stay up waiting for me.” I quickly grab my handbag, touch up my make-up and hair in the large mirror by the front door and head out of the suite.

Tania Sparks Author Photo

The first thing you need to know about me is that I genuinely believe in true love and soul mates. I met my wonderful husband when we were still at school. I was sixteen, he was seventeen, we are high school sweethearts. Now more than twenty five years later, we are still very much in love and are happily married with two beautiful children. We live in picturesque New Zealand and I consider ourselves lucky to live in this magnificent part of the world.

I do have a full time job, but in my spare minutes I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking and reading. I’m an avid reader and tend to chomp through a large volume of books, mainly in the romance genre. And of course my other major ‘hobby’ is writing steamy rock star erotic romances!

I started writing in early 2014. After spending many years writing business documentation, and constantly being inspired by numerous romance novels, I decided to try my hand at fictional writing. After penning my first scene I discovered that I enjoyed it immensely and so resolved to continue with the rest of the story that was swirling in my imagination. That story resulted in my first novel, Heaven Sent.

My Oblivion on Tour Series follows the five band members of the hard rock group Oblivion. Each book in the series follows a different band member and their quest for love.

Book 1 – Heaven Sent – Ash and Eve’s story
Book 2 – Bolt From The Blue – Nikki and Trixie’s story
Books 3, 4 & 5 will each tell Cody, Scott and Hansen’s stories.

#Review ~ Becoming His Master by M.Q. Barber ~ @MQBarber

What a terrific surprise to get a new book from NetGalley by an author I have no knowledge of and to fall in love with the book.

Here it is:

becoming his master cover

So I chose the book by the cover, I didn’t say judged but chose. Yes, I was intrigued but even more by the story.

Warning it is a BDSM and M/M novel so if that is not your taste, do not read it then.

Summary:

My Review:

About the Author:

M.Q. Barber likes to get lost in thought. She writes things down so she can find herself again.

Often found staring off into space or frantically scratching words on post-it notes, M.Q. lives with one very tolerant, easily amused husband and one very tolerant, easily amused puppy.

She has a soft spot for romances that explore the inner workings of the heart and mind alongside all that steamy physical exertion. She loves memorable characters, witty banter, and heartfelt emotion in any genre.

#BookRelease ~ Ember by Rachel Van Dyken ~ #TheEagleEliteSeries @InkslingerPR @RachVD #Books

This book sounds like it will have you on the edge of your seat.
See what you think…

I am a Killer. A Rapist. A Monster.
I know only pain and survival.
That is until the Cappo’s sister walked into my life.
And changed everything.
She’s a light who makes my darkness darker, her smile makes
my heart turn to ice, and I can’t escape the fear her seductive looks
instill–knowing it’s only a matter of time before I fail–again, and take her
for myself.
This is the story of my redemption.
But it’s not pretty…I died, and now I’m alive, but not
living, breathing but not surviving. I am Phoenix De Lange, son to a murdered
mob boss, estranged brother, horrible friend, monster in the making, newest
leader to one of the most powerful families in the Cosa Nostra.
And I will have my vengeance.
Or die trying.
I am Phoenix De Lange.
Death is all I know.
Until she offers me a piece of life–I can’t resist taking.

Once we were on the road, Phoenix chose the correct music for our drive. I say correct because, according to him, one didn’t start the day listening to hip-hop or anything remotely fun. No. Mr. Rogers had me listening to classical music.

Classical.

Mozart, to be exact.

Not that I wasn’t a fan of the arts, but really? It just seemed so against what you would expect from him. He was the bad boy personified; like, if you put his name in the dictionary, right next to it would be “And mothers warned their daughters to stay away, but the heart wants what the heart wants, and that heart wants that body… bad.”

He was all lean muscle and tight abs.

And I could have sworn he had a dimple, but I’d never actually seen it. Phoenix’s dimple was like Bigfoot; I’d seen glimpses in pictures and via rumors, but I had never actually seen it for myself.

One day.

One day I’d catch it and take a mental picture or five. Maybe ten. Needless to say, I knew that if I had one of his smiles, it would be a magical thing.

His hands gripped the steering wheel so hard I had a brief moment of panic thinking he was actually going to rip the thing from the dash and have a breakdown. Sad part? I half-expected it. He wasn’t acting normal… well, he was always moody, but this morning he seemed downright suicidal.

“So…” I tried to zone out the instruments assaulting my sanity. “You went to Eagle Elite, right?”

He was quiet for a minute then gave a swift nod.

“Wow, don’t talk so fast. I almost didn’t get all that.”

And crickets. Again.

I cleared my throat. “You graduate?”

“Sort of.”

“How do you sort of graduate?”

“Did you bring lunch money?” He asked in a tight voice.

I gaped. “Did you just ask me if I brought lunch money?”

He shrugged.

“You’re driving me to school, forcing Mozart on my poor sensitive morning ears, and just asked me if I had money for milk.”

“I’m concerned about you eating. Sue me.”

“Pretty sure the Nicolasi boss can afford to spare me a few dollars for a sandwich and a can of pop.”

“No pop.”

“Who died and made you my grandpa? Seriously. I want to know so I can steal your gun and point it at them.”

“Nobody touches my gun.”

“Which one?” I smirked, hoping he’d find the humor in my sexual innuendo, but who was I kidding? It was Phoenix. He simply grunted, rolled his eyes, and kept driving.

In a moment of pure rebellion, I undid the first two buttons of my white, collared shirt.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” he asked, his voice calm, his eyes still on the road.

“Wow, you really are like a parent. You can see me even when you aren’t looking.”

“Button that shit to your chin before I pull this car over.”

“Put on Jay-Z, and we’ll talk.”

More cursing.

I undid another button.

“Son of a bitch, you’re annoying.”

“Is this our first lovers’ spat?”

“Were there drugs in your toast?” He finally glanced at me, his blue eyes chilling me to the bone. “Be serious. I don’t want to get called into the dean’s office because you’re high.”

“Do I look like I’m on drugs?”

“Is this a trick question?”

#Review ~ Godsend by Sloan Johnson ~ @authorsloanj @ejbookpromos “Letting go of the past is the only way to see the future…”

Title: Godsend
Author: Sloan Johnson
Genre: Adult, Gay Romance
Release Date: February 4, 2015
I recently read “Dance with Destiny” and fell in love with Sloan Johnson.
Here is another great read of hers to try out. My review is towards the bottom.
You can’t choose who you fall in love with. Despite knowing from a young age that he was gay, Scott Murphy couldn’t imagine life without Shelly. He threw away the labels and had eleven amazing years with her, but now, he feels even more lost trying to figure out how to move on after Shelly’s death. After nearly a year of watching Scott fade away, Shelly’s father forces him to start living again.
As much as Chris loathes the idea of attending a bereavement group week after week, it’s one of the only places he can go in this town, other than the bar, to not feel so alone. When there’s nothing to distract him or dull his senses, he spends too much time obsessing over how he should have been able to help his sister. When Scott shows up at his group session, Chris decides that maybe some good can come out of his sister’s death.
There’s no denying that Chris is the first man to catch Scott’s attention in a long time, but how can he move on when just thinking of Shelly sends him to his dark place?
The road to recovery won’t be an easy one, but Chris is determined to help Scott see that life is still worth living. But before Scott can allow himself to admit what he feels for Chris, he knows he has to reveal the full truth about Shelly’s death.

I promised Ma that I wouldn’t drink my dinner every night, but some days, it’s impossible to keep that promise. I tell myself that it’s different on days like today because I’m not drinking to forget how much I miss Jill, I’m drinking to forget how miserable some people choose to make one another. Today, I just about lost it and told one couple that there’s no point in them even trying to get along. Unfortunately, my partner frowns upon me telling couples that sometimes two people just aren’t meant to be together, as was this case with this pair.

It takes a minute for my eyes to adjust to the dark atmosphere of Brewster’s after walking around for thirty minutes trying to tell myself I didn’t need a drink. I find an empty seat at the end of the bar and signal the bartender for my usual. Okay, so maybe Ma had a point since he simply nods and has a tall whiskey sour sitting in front of me in less than a minute.

I look around, the same way I do every night, wondering if this town will ever start to feel like home. It’s a nice enough place, but there’s a definite divide between those who are from here and those who move here at some point in their lives.

I sit a bit straighter when I see Scott, the quiet, broody guy from group, sitting at one of the high top tables in the center of the room. He looks absolutely miserable. When I catch a glimpse of his date for the evening, Adrian the annoying twink who thinks he’s God’s gift to all gay men in town, the annoyance radiating off Scott is understandable.

I nurse the first drink, rather than down it as quickly as possible. I’ve wanted to talk to Scott the past few weeks, but he’s ducked out as soon as the official meeting ends, even though Jim hangs around for a while. I’ve considered following him when he leaves, to see if I can talk to him, but then I tell myself that he must have his reasons for not wanting to deal with people and I have to respect that.

I feel like a creep, watching Adrian and Scott eating dinner, but I can’t help it. A few times, I’ve thought Scott was checking me out the same way I have been him and this is the first confirmation I have that I might be right. Scott excuses himself from the table and Adrian reaches out for him as he walks away. I laugh when Scott practically jumps back to keep from being part of an awkward and unwelcome embrace.

Once he’s in the restroom, I order another drink before putting a five-dollar bill in the jukebox. I don’t give a shit about the music, but it’s the closest I can get to Scott without following him into the bathroom, which is a level of creepy that I can’t imagine stooping to.

Sloan Johnson is a big city girl trapped in a country girl’s life. While she longs for the hustle and bustle of New York City or Las Vegas, she hasn’t yet figured out how to sit on the deck with her morning coffee, watching the deer and wild turkeys in the fields while surrounded by concrete and glass.
When she was three, her parents received their first call from the principal asking them to pick her up from school. Apparently, if you aren’t enrolled, you can’t attend classes, even in Kindergarten. The next week, she was in preschool and started plotting her first story soon after.
Later in life, her parents needed to do something to help their socially awkward, uncoordinated child come out of her shell and figured there was no better place than a bar on Wednesday nights. It’s a good thing they did because this is where she found her love of reading and writing. Who needs socialization when you can sit alone in your bedroom with a good book?
Now, Sloan is a tattooed mom with a mohawk and two kids. She’s been kicked out of the PTA in two school districts and is no longer asked to help with fundraisers because she’s been known to lose herself with a good book and forget she has somewhere to be.

**ARC received for honest review**

I loved Sloan Johnson’s book “Dance with Destiny” and was hoping this would be similar. This story was very deep and heavy, not my cup of tea, but the relationship part of the story I liked.

The prologue starts with the very sad story of Shelly dealing with cancer. Knowing her end is near, Shelly decides how her end will play out. I actually cried reading the prologue. I was sitting on the sidelines at my boy’s practice, crying over the story. I don’t enjoy books that make me cry. Squirm and wiggle, yes. But, I continued reading knowing that I really enjoyed Sloan’s other book.

The book focuses on Scott, Shelly’s husband, and how he handles her death. Scott is very close to Shelly’s parents and it is thanks to them that Scott finds the strength to start living again. Scott meets Chris, who is in a similar situation and together they help each other out and a relationship begins.

I enjoyed the relationship as it built. Written very realistic I think, though I have never been in Scott or Chris’ shoes. The relationship took it’s time and ran with normal life situations trying to interfere. I appreciated the strong family ties and support from the families. The parents spoke up when they needed to, and sometimes I chuckled when Ma got to share her advice.

I could have done without Shelly coming back into the story as often as she did. Again, the tears started flowing and I don’t enjoy crying over a book. But I am not the author and I respect the author’s choice to have the dialogue in there.

I will say I have a greater respect and understanding for those in Shelly’s position of having terminal cancer and choosing how and when to end their life. Sloan did a great job of letting you experience both sides of the decision and actually my heart hurt for both Shelly AND Scott and her family.

Even though this wasn’t my favorite type of story to read, Sloan still writes a very good story. At times I could not put my iPad down wondering what would happen between Chris and Scott. Even though I thought I knew what would happen, I still had to keep reading to find out the result. I loved their tender love story and the heated temper Scott has. I could almost feel the love between the two characters as I read the story. I am glad I finished it.

I gave it four stars because it WAS a good story, just not my favorite type of story but that shouldn’t discount how it was written. Sloan does a super job of character relationship development and I did enjoy most of the book. I would definitely read another book from this author.
