Green excerpt

“Who?” he asked again, his fists clenching.

“Autumn, of course,” Meghan said with a smile. “Who else would be able to handle you and your bad tempers other than Fall?”

“And you can’t say no,” his mother reminded him. “It’s already taken care of. You’re stuck with her, and you will treat her with respect. Got me, boy?”

Griffin closed his eyes and groaned. Well, fuck. “Autumn? You’re kidding me, right? I thought she worked with Meghan?”

“She does,” Meghan answered. “And she will work with you. And you’ll be happy about it. Because if you mess with her and piss her off, she’ll kick your ass. And then I’ll kick your ass because she’s my friend.”

Griffin wanted to kick the girls out and stomp back to his room. There was no way this would work. Autumn would take one look at his place and run away. There was no way she’d want to stay and work with him. There was also no way he’d be able to deal with her so close to him while he was trying to figure out what the fuck to do with his book.

Maybe that was it. Maybe he’d let her see what she was in for and let her walk away. Because no matter what, Autumn couldn’t be his personal assistant. No one could. He lived alone, worked alone, and breathed alone. It was the way he’d worked so far, and damn it, it was the way he would continue to work.

There wasn’t another option.

Autumn wouldn’t last long, and then she’d be out of his life forever.

And why the hell did that make his stomach hurt? For that reason and more, he knew he had to find a way out of this. Only he wasn’t sure how he was going to do that with the women in his life staring at him the way they were. They wanted Autumn in his life, and the damned woman had said yes. And it looked like Griffin didn’t have a choice at all.

Well, shit.

green synopsis

A Brand New Full Length Novel in the Bestselling Montgomery Ink Series where the quiet, inked Montgomery finds his match in the woman with a fiery passion and a past full of secrets.

There’s nothing worse for a writer than missing a deadline. For Griffin Montgomery, his failure to do what he loves comes at a blow. He didn’t understand how it was affecting his life until his well-meaning family intercedes. His sisters have hired him a new personal assistant and he’s outraged—that is, until he sees who it is.

Autumn Minor is light on her feet and a bare memory for most people she meets. She does her best to blend in everywhere she lives, even if it’s only for a short period of time. Making sure no one truly notices her is the only way she’s survived this long. Only when she meets Griffin and the rest of the Montgomerys, she’s afraid she won’t be able to let go when its time to run.

Though the two begin a tentative but explosive relationship, they know it can’t last forever. Neither of them are made for the long haul when it comes to love and romance. When the demons from Autumn’s past find her and put both their lives at risk, Griffin will stop at nothing to protect her. In the end, though, he’ll be the one who needs a second chance.

I must first say that I posted my original review here on Goodreads and when I went to copy it over to Amazon, it was not here. I am crushed that the original review is gone but I have done my best to recreate what I wrote.

I have never read Carrie Ann Ryan’s books before. I have since bought more of her Montgomery Ink Series books. I liked this book that much.

My really only negative thing I found was the enormous family that Griffin belongs to, the Montgomery Family, was hard to comprehend initially. Now this is book four in the series so maybe if I had read the first three, I would be more comfortable with all the siblings and their partners. I felt there were a lot of people introduced all at once and I had a hard time remembering who was who. But the more I got into the story, the more I got to know the characters and felt more comfortable with the Montgomery Clan. I was very intrigued by the group, hence why I bought the first three books to get to know them better. I like reading books in a series where the characters know each other and are mentioned again in other books.

With that out of the way, I loved Autumn Miller, one of the two main characters. Autumn is strong willed and confident, determined to take care of herself. But she is running from a past that will catch up to her sooner rather than later. In fact, she keeps an emergency bag in her car for that moment she must go. She is ready to run again to protect her friends. Can she protect those around her when trouble does find her? Can she protect herself from the danger?

Griffin Montgomery, an author, needs help getting organized so he can finish his book, but his pride pushes Autumn away when she is hired by Griffin’s family to come help him. He soon finds out that having her around helps him write. He discovers that having her around does more than that…

The closeness of the Montgomery family is touching. Whenever one is in trouble, the all come to help. Autumn has been around long enough to be trusted by the Montgomerys and they have taken her in as one of them. So when she is in trouble, they brothers and sisters come to help. Boy does she need their help.

Not only is Autumn running from her past, Griffin has a past that he must deal with as well. Griffin struggles with his feelings as an author, as a lover and his feelings for a past he is afraid to let go of or forget. So many struggles between Autumn and Griffin.

The book pace moved well, it kept me interested and anxious to see what happened next. I had a hard time putting the book down. I think I read it in one day. I loved the honest interaction between Griffin and Autumn and their inner dialogue was very believable. The best part is Griffin realizing that he knows they make sense but he needs to give in to his feelings and take the leap to commit. He needs to take a chance himself.

Carrie writes a great book that kept my attention throughout the entire story. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Profile2 (1)

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan never thought she’d be a writer. Not really. No, she loved math and science and even went on to graduate school in chemistry. Yes, she read as a kid and devoured teen fiction and Harry Potter, but it wasn’t until someone handed her a romance book in her late teens that she realized that there was something out there just for her. When another author suggested she use the voices in her head for good and not evil, The Redwood Pack and all her other stories were born.

Carrie Ann is a bestselling author of over twenty novels and novellas and has so much more on her mind (and on her spreadsheets *grins*) that she isn’t planning on giving up her dream anytime soon.
