My Review
Ava: “Everything happens for a reason. You are my reason, Lucas Black.”

This line describes the determination that Ava
had to fight to live, but only because of Lucas. Lucas kept Ava from drowning, the only person who could. A stranger. A cop in a biker’s world. They don’t mix. Usually. But nothing about this relationship is usual or normal.

Lucas: “And two broken pieces can make a whole, kid. Remember that.”

Lucas is broken. He has lost a daughter, a wife and now his own life. It’s not worth living for. He searches for years to get answers to Jennifer’s disappearance but can’t seem to find any. Wall after wall. Then one day a door opens but he knows it’s not safe.

Lucas: “I lift her into my arms. Little do I know she’s going to change my entire life.”

Lucas comes upon Ava after she’s been broken. He knows it. He can see it in her eyes. He helps her to try and heal from the nightmare she just went through, but in the end, they save each other from drowning.

Lucas: “Got your back forever, kid. You know that.”

Ava comes to learn that even though Lucas, a cop, is not welcome in her biker family, he is the first real person that she can be honest with and share her traumatic experience with. Not her family. She comes to learn the Lucas will be there for her, no matter what.

This story was amazing. Suspenseful at times not knowing what was going to happen, I was silently yelling at Jackson or Lucas to hurry up. Find Ava. And at other times I wanted to smack stubborn Jackson for being who he was.

Lucas and Ava connected. Ava learned to trust him, never giving up her family values. She stayed loyal to the family as long as she could. Ava found her inner strength thanks to Lucas. Ava learned to fight to live. Lucas gave her to courage and strength to dig deep and win. The comment about Ava scratching at the sidewalk trying to get up made me see her as a tiger, not will to accept defeat. She would scratch her way to live, to win.

Bella writes another incredible story about two main characters, Ava and Lucas. One broken and one becomes broken. But somehow they can help each other to live again. Her suspenseful story kept me wanting more, the next page, the next chapter. Hungry for more. I love her characters that always have some mystery to themselves, some dark past or secret that in time we discover and fall that much more for them. I appreciated Lucas’ strength and weakness, both at the same time. Even if you aren’t into the biker family stories, still read this. Bella does an amazing job with her writing and it is worth the read.
