I am struggling with this review. I LOVE Julie Kenner and the Stark Series with Damien and Nikki. I was excited to read about Dallas from the teaser left in Deepest Kiss. But the whole brother/sister thing has left me feeling a little weird.
This story is DEEP and I mean DEEP. It keep getting deeper as the layers are revealed. Julie is very good at having a story that sucks you in and makes you need to get to the end. And by the way I wanted to scream at the end. Although, I had my suspicions with subtle clues left throughout. If it wasn’t so late knowing I would wake the house up, I would have screamed after reading the last page. Jaw dropper. Seriously.
This story with the brother and sister, but they aren’t blood brother and sister but they share relatives…I don’t know, it kind of made me feel weird. The deep attraction to each other at 15 was odd. Then the details of Dallas’ time while he was kidnapped, made me want to cry almost at the thought of it being done. But that’s what a great author does, invokes emotions from their readers. Julie sure did that here.
I can’t give a rating of less than 4 stars because this story is written well and I couldn’t stop reading it to see what happened. I did skim thorough details that were not, to me, pertinent to the story. I wanted to get to the next development or to an answer. I, personally, didn’t care for the brother/sister angel. My taste though, nothing to do with the book or the way Julie wrote it. But I will have to read the next one, Hottest Mess, to see how this plays out. Julie is an outstanding author and her other books are some of my favorites.
