Exclusive Excerpt:

Teague walked along the sidewalk outside the White House, trying his damnedest to figure out why he’d asked her to coffee. Bloody hell, as Kamal would say, had he lost his mind? In those moments in the press conference when he’d been replying to questions while he struggled not to look at her, he’d felt like twelve years had been stripped away in one supercharged moment. He still felt less than, and she was still the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen.

Her thick dark hair was long, just the way he’d always loved it, and certain parts of his anatomy had no trouble remembering how he used to wrap those silky tresses around his hands as he pumped into her from behind, long and slow.

Her skin was as clear and unlined as the day he’d met her, and her sky-blue eyes were just as sparkling and mischievous, promising that everything going on behind them wasn’t innocent and sweet.

But her body. My God, her body. She’d put on weight, in all the best places. She’d always had an athletic build, long, muscular legs, and broad shoulders. Now she had an even more defined ass, tits that made his hands itch to mold them, and curves for miles.

He never should have asked her out for coffee. What the hell had he been thinking?

“How about here?” she asked as they approached the Beltway Bean.

“Sure,” he answered, leaning in to open the door and hold it for her. She smelled like strawberry wine, and his dick did a tango in his dress pants.

“You ever been here before?” he asked as they stepped into line at the bar.

“A few times,” she answered. “I like their cappuccinos.”

He chuckled. “You always were a connoisseur.”

The small shop was typically jammed, but after they got their drinks, he stalked a pair of senate interns until they got nervous and left. Grabbing the table they’d vacated, he waved her over, and they each took a chair at the high two top.

“So, what’s it been?” he asked, even though he knew exactly, nearly down to the minute. “Ten years?”

“Twelve,” she answered. “I was twenty and you were twenty-two the last time we had coffee.”

And sex, his mind added.

“Well, it appears the years have been good to you.”

“And obviously, they’ve been successful for you,” she added. They each sipped their drinks, the awkward bleeding all over them.

“So, you married? Living with someone?” he asked nonchalantly. Yeah, sure, that.

She shook her head. “No. I was seeing someone back in Boston where I moved from, but it wasn’t going anywhere.” She looked up at him from under her lashes. “And you?”

“No. No time for all that. I work eighty hours a week and spend the other few at the gym or sleeping. I’m not all that exciting.”

She shifted on her chair, and her blouse slipped a touch, giving him a peek at the cleavage that hid beneath. His heart raced and his skin heated.

“Well, from what I heard on the news earlier, today’s been enough excitement for a few years at least.”

He chuckled softly. “It’s been a strange day for sure.”

“What belongs to me? Be specific. I want the words.”

“My pussy belongs to you. I belong to you. No matter what I do, I know I belong to you. I love you. I love you so much, Connor.” She poured her heart into those words, willing him to believe her.

“And I belong to you. No matter what I fucking do. You remember that. You take those words and memorize them because no matter what happens, they’re true and they’re going to stay true. I won’t let you take them back. Ever.”

She wouldn’t want to. “I love you.”

“That means everything to me, princess.” He withdrew his fingers and gripped her hips. She felt his erection probe between her thighs. “I’ve never wanted anything the way I want you. Remember that, too.”

She couldn’t reply because the head of his cock breached her in one hard thrust. He didn’t ease into her or give her time to adjust. He gave her every inch he had, holding her hips and forcing himself inside her. She was invaded and dominated. He controlled and conquered. A shock of tingles rolled through her body. She whimpered.

“Push back against me,” he commanded.

She thrust back and tossed her head at the feel of him sliding in to the hilt. It was almost too much. He held himself steady, and his left hand slid up to her breasts. He shoved the bra above her mounds and cupped her as he pulled out and stroked back in. He thumbed her nipple then gave it a twist.

“Never again, Lara. I swear to god if you lie to me again, I won’t be responsible for what I do to you. I’ll tie you to the bed and I won’t ever let you leave again. Your whole life will be about taking my cock. You won’t see the fucking outside world. You’ll spend every day on your back and your knees and any other way that pleases me.”

She found him endlessly amusing when he was angry. Somehow she couldn’t see him actually turning her into a sex slave, but she was sure in the moment it seemed like a viable option to him.

He twisted her nipple again, and a pleasurable pain shimmered through her. She responded before he could do it again. “Yes, Connor. I won’t see the light of day. I understand.”

“I’ll chain you to me, Lara.” He anchored his hands back on her hips as he thrust in and out of her body in rough, rhythmic strokes. “I won’t let you leave my sight. Fuck, you feel so good.”

She let her head fall back, giving over to the euphoria of having Connor inside her. He was so big. When he filled her, she always had a moment when she wasn’t sure she could handle it, but she ached to try. And once she succeeded in accommodating every inch of him . . . She groaned. There was nothing like it. There was certainly no one like him.

He caressed every bit of her skin that he could reach, her breasts and her belly, the curves of her waist and hips, before he found her clitoris again and strummed it—fucking her with force all the while.

Lara pressed back against him. If she hadn’t, the strength of his thrusts would have sent her headfirst into the wall. Still, he didn’t hold back. He simply picked up the pace and she moved with him. The push and pull of his strokes formed a rhythm she sank into. Over and over his cock sank deep before he dragged back out, sensitizing her flesh and drawing her to the edge.

She groaned as he toyed with her clitoris in earnest now.

“I can’t hold out. You feel so good. You’re so hot and tight around me. Come for me, princess.”

My Review

** ARC Received for Honest Review **

This is my first book in the “Perfect Gentleman Series” by Shayla Black and Lexie Blake. I do intend to go back and read “Scandal Never Sleeps”, the first one. It can be read alone but if you have the time, read “Scandal Never Sleeps” first so you understand the whole plot, the bigger story of what is going on in the series.

This book is about the Perfect Gentleman of Creighton Academy. Six boys, well now they are men. They are privileged, wealthy, powerful friends with a bit of a wild side. The group formed a friendship in prep school, the “Perfect Gentleman,” so named by a sarcastic counselor. They are a tight group. They are brothers in every sense of the word. Each of the boys came from very distinguished ancestors and has a place all set up for them in society. Including the Presidency. Everyone, except Connor Sparks.

Connor Sparks grew up in a “sad-sack single-wide with cracked linoleum and broken stairs” with a mother who was a drug addict who slept around with anyone who wanted to be in her bed, but none of his friends knew that. He never went home for the holidays, spending most of them with his brothers. They became his family. When it came time to graduate and move on to Yale, Connor knew he wasn’t going to join them. No one else did. He didn’t have the money and the financial aid wasn’t enough. He didn’t have the family connections to fall back on either. Yet he couldn’t tell his brothers. So the night of the big beach graduation party, Connor had an opportunity dropped in his lap that would allow him to go to Yale, get a degree and guaranteed him a job when he graduated. The brothers thought they would take over the world. Together.

Meet Lara Armstrong, owner of Capital Scandals Blog, a Vegan, protector of the environment and all things in the world. Big or little. Her heart and door were open to anyone that needed help. Anyone. She would stop and talk to a homeless person and offer help. In working on her blog to better the political word, Lara has uncovered something interesting involving the President in her research. But someone doesn’t want her to investigate the topic and her life is in danger. Real danger. Bullets and blood danger. It’s decided that she needs a bodyguard. Enter Connor Sparks and his brotherhood.

This book is a very interesting read, full of mysteries and story lines that spin off of the main story. Once I got into the story (wasn’t until about chapter 6 or 7) I needed to know what happened. And warning now, there is a cliffhanger. Yep. I said it, a cliffhanger.

If you like politics and mystery with some romance thrown in, this is your book. I loved the connection to Washington, almost feeling like it was Scandal or 24 episode. I also appreciate the brotherhood the boys have formed and how they have each others back, regardless. The story time line takes about two to three weeks (if i read it correctly) and there are many incidental characters that add to the spice of the story. Just when you think it is all figured out…you are wrong or a wrench is thrown in to mix things up. I love the ongoing mystery, it kept me reading and reading and reading. I love the mention of the brothers all throughout the book. Once you understand who the six are and what their connection to each other is, you see them again and again helping one another with the mysteries going on. And it’s worth repeating, the have each other’s back time and time again. They are a good thing, probably one of the best things in Connor’s life.

The only thing I found unbelievable was the relationship that forms between Connor and Lara in such a short time. I just found it a little unrealistic. At first Connor is in the bodyguard mode and serious, barking orders and then his actions resemble a school boy in love. The two characters are polar opposites! To me, he lost the strong bodyguard persona. He softened too much for my liking. He still protected Lara and still did his job, don’t get me wrong, but his heart went from closed and padlocked to open with a neon sign flashing in bright pink in a very short period of time. For someone who had never had a parent’s love, or unconditional love, I found that a little unrealistic. I would have expected him to be more guarded and careful with his feelings, not as forth coming as he was, needing to build trust first and in this story with politics involved there are plenty of lies and scandals in his world. That is my only negative about the book. The sex was very caveman like at first but understandable since Connor is who Connor is, his background explains that. He does care about pleasing the woman and making sure he gets is, but it was a bit awkward at first, almost humorous to hear him demand things from a woman like Lara. But it gets better! She transforms into a beautiful “princess” in the story.

So I am anxious to read the first book in the series now, “Scandal Never Sleeps”, and of course the next one in the series when it comes out, “Big East Temptation.” Can you read this before the first, yes, but do yourself a favor and go back and read the first one so you can understand what happened to Maddox and how this all works together somehow.

From the book:
“I would love some peace, Lara. I’ve been at war most of my life so i would love some peace. And normalcy.”

From Connor, a statement that truly describes him and his journey in this book. Does he ever find it though?

Exclusive Excerpt:

Setup: Senator Shep Conover has just asked Congresswoman Grace Colton to consider being his vice presidential running mate in the 2016 presidential election. But before he’ll choose her, she must be vetted and coached by his political consultant, Jared Rankin—the stranger she thought was a one-night stand.

I hold the wingback chair for support and paste a smile on my face as I watch the senator leave the suite. That leaves me and Jared and a hell of a lot of silence.

He picks up several thick manila files from a side table, perhaps the same ones I saw in his hotel room last night, and sits in the chair opposite me. His expression is unreadable.

I remain standing. Fight or flight. That’s what I’m deciding as I lament there’s nothing in view that I could bludgeon Jared with.

“Ms. Colton. Please, have a seat.” He gestures to the chair I’m supposed to occupy.

“No.” I sound like a petulant child.

“Grace—”

“No! What the hell was that, Jared? What the fucking hell?” I bend to get in his face to really shout him into submission, but he grabs my wrist.

I struggle but can’t break from his grasp. His deep brown eyes are smoldering with intensity, and I shoot as much hatred as I can from my eyes.

I’m embarrassed. Mortified. This man who has seen me naked, who made me scream his name less than twelve hours ago, is now Ms. Colton-ing me like I’m his kid’s schoolteacher.

That sends a shockwave to my gut. I know nothing about this man: not whether he’s married, or has a kid, or exactly what his business is here.

Sensing that the fight’s left me, Jared drops my wrist and slowly stands.

I hold my ground, standing toe to toe with him. His hair is combed neatly, but I remember the way my grasping fingers teased it into wild waves last night. His stubbled jaw remains.

I fold my arms across my chest because my gray pantsuit and silk top aren’t doing the trick. My heels don’t boost me to an even height with Jared.

His thumb brushes my lower lip and I gasp and take a step back.

“Pouting doesn’t suit you. Tuck that lip back in.”

“Don’t touch. I bite,” I snarl, angry that he’s mixed the familiarity from last night with the utter seriousness of this political opportunity.

“So do I,” Jared says, taking another step toward me and forcing me to step back. “But you like it.”

I bump into a wall covered in fancy wallpaper. Jared’s body cages me in.

“You’re a bastard.” I’m even angrier he’s getting to me. I grab his shirt, ready to push him back, but he captures my wrists and slams them against the wall above my head.

“I hear that a lot.” Jared’s body molds against me. I feel his erection hardening as he presses his hips into mine, and my traitorous body responds in turn, too eager to tip my hips at just the right angle.

I can’t get the word bastard through my lips again when every cell in my body is screaming Encore! Encore!

“How could you?” I hiss.

“It’s what you wanted. No stories. No strings.”

“But I’ve got a hell of a lot of regret.” I move to turn away from him, but Jared lowers his mouth toward mine. His lips land on my jaw and skim down my neck, his tongue explores the hollow of my throat then glides back up my neck to taste the soft skin behind my earlobe. I whimper and twist, but he just anchors me harder, both body and wrists.

“You knew,” I hiss, trying to get my brain to focus on why I’m here, not the hardening length in his pants that has me rubbing against him like a freaking cat in heat. “You knew who I was and you let me … you let me humiliate myself.”

I stifle a cry as his teeth come out, sinking into the flesh at the base of my neck. It stings, and the twinge heightens my need to retaliate, to touch him in all the ways he’s touching me. To drive us to release.

His knee presses between mine and my legs part, my body in full meltdown.

“You didn’t humiliate yourself. You just let go. Got out of your head for One. Fucking. Minute.” With each word his hips rock against mine until my core is aching to be filled again.

My God, is he really going to make me come? With every stitch of clothing on? I struggle against his hold on me. “You knew who I am. You knew we could be working together!”

“I didn’t go to the club expecting to pick you up, if that’s what you’re wondering.” His lips are inches from mine and his eyes narrow. The force in his expression nearly my undoing.

“Bullshit. You were all about picking me up.”

“And do you regret it?” Jared’s voice drops to a low, dangerous whisper.

No! “Yes.”

He drops my hands. Spins and strides to the opposite side of the room.

I go cold. And fucking frustrated. He wound up my body so tight that I’m vibrating with tension, needing just a little more to take me over the edge.

He gathers the folders and slides them inside a leather attaché case as if we’ve been sipping coffee for the last five minutes rather than slammed up against a wall. “Let’s go.”

“Where?”

“Your place.”

I almost snap, imagining the relief he could offer to my wound-up state. But his face says all business. He looks at his watch. “We’ve got a long list on our agenda today. Your place is good enough to start.”
