#Sale #BookSale #LimitedTime #eBook ~ The Gentleman’s Series by A.J. Linn ~ Meet Donovan Hart #BBF #Teaser @GentlemansHub @FuckedUpFifty_

Anonymous-wallpaper-9769096

Not all romance stories are about a tall, strikingly handsome rich billionaire that sweeps some poor, helpless female who can’t think for herself, off her feet and then locks her away in his mansion to have erotic, crazy sex for the rest of their lives. And they never go to work again.

Okay, so I exaggerated. A little. Alright, a lot. But I get tired of reading books that while they have romance and some great erotic sex scenes, they are SO unrealistic that it is hard to actually enjoy the story.

Then I met A.J. Linn and his character Donovan. Donovan Hart. But I digress…

What I liked most about The Gentleman’s Series is the way they are written.  The Gentleman’s Series is written by a man (yes, AJ Linn is a man) in a male’s point of view. Definitely a refreshing writing style. Comical at times. Realistic and believable. Take out Donovan and insert yourself as he main character, and I bet we have all had a dating story like one of Donovan’s in A Gentleman’s Affair. Did your date totally flake out on you in the middle of dinner and forget your name? Have you tried online dating and was it a train wreck? Did your date have a boyfriend/girlfriend but conveniently forget to tell you until they showed up? Oh just remembering the chapters has me laughing.

aga good reads

Learn about Donovan and his dating disasters in A Gentleman’s Affair, the first book in The Gentleman’s Series. Meet Donovan Hart. A real guy. He is done with the playboy attitude. He wants to find love, his “unico vero amore” – his one true love. The kind of love his parents had.  The kind of love that makes you feel like you’ve known the person forever. The kind of love that lasts through good and bad times but you know that person is there for you. The kind of love that kicks your ass when you need it and comforts you when you need it and is just at your side, quietly when you need it. The kind of forever love that holds your hand when you are sitting next to each other watching a movie without realizing you reached for their hand. True love. But we all know it doesn’t fall from the sky and you know the old saying to stop looking and let it happen? Tell that to Donovan. So follow his journey to try and find “her.”

A Gentleman's Secret- Front RGB

In his second book, A Gentleman’s Secret, we learn a lot more about Donovan Hart. And as the title suggests, we learn some of his secrets. You will not believe what secrets I am talking about. I know you are thinking of some ideas based on the books you have already read but the creative mind of A.J. Linn will surprise you. This book has many twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat as you are reading. You will be pleasantly surprised first, by the result of the cliffhanger you were left with at the end of A Gentleman’s Affair and how it is worked out in A Gentleman’s Secret but also how Donovan’s secrets and his past play into his meeting women. I am trying VERY hard not to give anything away to spoil the experience of this book. I can say that A.J. Linn wrote characters into his story that were created by his readers and followers on Twitter. He chose where and when to use them but it was fun to have MY character mentioned when he…

AGM- Front Cover RGB

After reading the first two books, you will have questions about Donovan. Lots of questions, trust me. If you could talk to AJ Linn himself, you would bombard him with so many you might not come up for air.  Questions about his early years. Lots of questions. How, why, when, how many, etc. Well, not to be disappointed, A.J. Linn wrote the third book in The Gentleman’s Series to answer all those questions, and more. Go back in time and meet the young, playboy Donovan Hart when the world was his playground. Nothing interfered with his fun. He had THE life. But then, all of a sudden, his world crashes down on him, turned upside down and he has to grow up. Fast. And he does. But as he does, he becomes THE Donovan Hart that we fell in love with in the first two books. You can’t miss this part of his life, the details, oh the details, the adventures, the mistakes and the girls. Again, A.J. Linn wrote characters that were created by his followers on Twitter, into the story. As a reader I was excited to see where my characters “fit in” and how A.J. connected them to his master plan. It is interesting and exciting. VERY interesting. A.J. Linn has an incredibly creative mind. How does he know so much about…?

If you want to check this series out, you are in luck! Right now they are on sale at Smashwords. Each book in the series is marked down to give you a chance to meet and fall in love with Donovan Hart like so many of us have done.

That is top secret (no, I do not know) but I do know it is called A Gentleman’s Fate so…let your imagination take you down some different avenues. Who knows? The crafty, creative mind of A.J. Linn will surprise us, he might throw us on the floor, have us flailing ourselves on our beds screaming, pounding the mattress with our fists and yelling at him for how the story-line progressed, and all the while, he will be sitting back, reading the responses on Twitter with a great big smirk on his face. I am sure of that! But I digress…

What some readers say about A.J. Linn’s books:

“What can I say about Donovan?? He’s absolutely lovable, charming, and hilarious. A self-professed ladies man who changes his ways and cleans up his act all to find his dream girl. The whole book is told through him, and you get to see his thought process while he’s on some dates with questionable women. And let me tell you, some of his thoughts were hilarious. It was great to read about a man looking for love. I know we all ladies are used to reading this quest through female leads, so it was a great swap for me. I couldn’t believe some of the dates he had to endure, I was laughing so hard(maybe a even a little snort-laugh) when he met the online girl in person and was “blown-away” haha.”

“The characters throughout the book were very well written, especially Donovan and Scarlett. They were so compatible and you could really feel their connection. Watching their relationship develop I got invested and I found myself really rooting for them.”

“This author needs to write MORE books – he’s done an incredible job on his first outing, and we can only hope for more in the future.”

“I loved that this story is written from the man’s point of view. This book will pull you in and you will not be able to get enough of Donovan!! MUST READ!!!”

Author AJ Linn is proving to be very talented. A Gentleman’s Affair pulls you in and keeps you Intrigued from start to finish. Guaranteed to leave you wanting more. Then you must immediately read A Gentleman’s Secret. Donovan Hart will pull you into a world of lust, love, and raw emotion. You will NOT be disapointed. This is a Must Read!”

Reading books written in the male point of view are becoming my favorites. A Gentleman’s Affair by A.J. Linn is the story of the sexy bachelor Donovan Hart told through his point of view. I must say, getting inside the mind of this eligible bachelor makes this story a funny, witty and sexy read.”

I was a little hesitant to read this, not wanting another Fifty Shades knockoff. Most popular books in this genre seem to use a “perfect” character in one of the main roles and catered towards the female in the story. I was pleasantly surprised to find it all from the male’s point of view. I found myself able to relate to the main character; bad dates and crazy exes a little too similar to my own experiences. The best part of this book is how easy it is to read. It isn’t juvenile by any means, but incredibly easy to read. I read quickly anyways, and absolutely flew through this book. The character development was perfect, the book kept me engaged, and I genuinely enjoyed the read.”

So what are YOU waiting for? Order up some Donovan Hart for yourself!

As the author of the best-selling mystery romance, Surviving Goodbye, Morgan Parker has written several novels under this pen name. In 2012 and 2013, when he self-published Textual Encounters and Textual Encounters: 2, respectively, he was absolutely floored that anyone would want to read his stories. So he wrote non friction, an unconventional love story. That love story earned Mr. Parker a tremendous amount of attention and at the insistence of his readers, he followed it with Hope (a novella) and Sick Day. All three of those stories have spent time on Amazon best-seller lists. Currently, he is preparing Violets & Violence for publication in late-2014.

When not writing, Morgan likes to spend time gathering writing material from his two young children, reading and napping where he discovered the Type II Sleep State, which is the topic for his 2015 release, Anna Graham.
Morgan interacts regularly with his readers and friends on Facebook and Twitter.

Tristan Williams thought the path of his life was on the

Ryn Webster was finally putting her past behind her. Moving
to Texas and concentrating on the success of her own company, she had her life almost where she wanted it. One thing was missing though…love. She thought she had found love with Tristan until he casted her aside.
After being hurt by Tristan, Ryn does whatever she can to push him from her heart, even if it means being with a man she doesn’t love.
Regardless of the path one thinks they are on, the journey of life can cause unexpected turns, altering the planned course. Will Tristan and Ryn’s bottle be tossed about, lost in the rocky waves of life? Or will calm seas prevail to help Tristan and Ryn finally find their journey of
love…together?
PROLOGUE
I had been sitting on the beach for the last hour just staring out at the black
ocean. I tipped the beer bottle back and drank the last of my beer.
“Well hell. Looks like I have to go back,” I said as I got up and brushed the sand
off my pants. I turned and looked back at the house. My brother Lark and his
new wife, Azurdee had left two hours ago for their honeymoon and I couldn’t
take watching Ryn another second.
I sucked in a deep breath of salty air and slowly let it out. My phone went off and I
pulled it out of my pocket. I let out a deep breath when I saw it was Liberty.
Liberty: Just letting you know I’m thinking about you. If you
want me to join you I’ll come down. Just text me back and I’ll be there.
Me: I think I just need some time to think, Liberty. We need this
time apart.
Liberty: I didn’t mean to push you. I’m always pushing you, I
know. I just really wanted to see your parents and would have loved to have
seen the wedding but I understand you have your reasons for going alone. Things
haven’t been so great with us lately. I’ll work on that. Promise.
Me: We’ll talk when I get back to Austin.
Liberty: Okay. I love you, Tristan.
I let out a sigh and shook my head. I’ve never told Liberty I loved her. I wasn’t sure
anymore how I felt about her. We had been on again and off again so many
times I was beginning to lose count. Currently, we were off. All she had been
doing is pushing an engagement ever since she found out Lark and Azurdee were
getting married. When I thought of my future I didn’t see Liberty. I only saw …
Ryn. And that scared the piss out of me.
I turned my phone to silent and shoved it in my pocket. I started heading back to the
house and began putting on my game face. The one I’d been wearing for the last
ten months. The one where everyone thought I was happy, but deep down inside I
was the unhappiest I’d ever been in my life.
I walked up the stairs to the deck and the first person I saw was Ryn. She was leaning
against the railing with her head back and her eyes closed. There was no one
else out here.
She looked tired. I smiled when I thought about what I had overheard earlier when
Mom and Azurdee’s best friend, Jessie, were talking. Ryn had taken a two-week vacation
and was renting a house on the beach just two houses down from here. I already
began planning ways to ‘run in to her’ while we were both here.
She hadn’t talked to me in over ten months. No matter how many times I called and
left her messages begging her to call me, she never would.
Her cell phone rang and she quickly answered it. I walked around to the other side of
the deck and sat down to where she couldn’t see me.
“Hey, Dodge. Are you on your way? Yes. I thought I could, but I can’t. I need you.”
Dodge? Who the fuck is Dodge?
She laughed at something he said and then she let out a sigh. “Well, considering I
still need my RFB, I’d say yes … it’s been a sucky last three days.”
I peeked around the corner and saw her smiling. She reached her hand up and began
playing with her nipple.
What the fuck?
“That sounds like heaven. Yes. I’m going to need it a lot. I don’t know, you’d think
after all this time you’d have been able to fuck him out of my head and heart.
Maybe you’re not as good as you think you are?”
My mouth dropped open and I quickly turned back and stared out in the night sky.
She laughed again and said, “I’m still at the wedding. Yes. It was hard to see him.
I don’t know. Maybe, I’ve thought about that. Yes. I realize I only use you for
sex to forget about Tristan, but maybe I’m falling for you and just want your
company. You ever think of that?”
My heart started beating faster and I wanted to pound this asshole’s head in.
She let out a sigh and said, “Okay. I’ll see you then. Oh trust me. I’ll be waiting and
I will most certainly be ready for you. Yes naked. Hey, Dodge? Hurry please. I
need to be fucked in a bad way. Bye.”
She let out a sigh and then I swore I heard her crying. I slowly stood. She was looking
out toward the ocean. Her shoulders were moving up and down and when I saw her wipe away her tears, my knees about
buckled out from underneath me.
I started making my way toward her. I didn’t want to walk up on her crying, so I cleared
my throat and asked, “May I join you?”
She quickly wiped her tears away and looked the other way. “It’s your house,” she
whispered. “How have you been, Ryn?” She turned and looked at me. If looks
could kill, I’d be on the floor right now. “You’ve ignored me for
three days and now you ask how I’ve been?”
I shrugged my shoulders and said, “I wasn’t sure you wanted to talk to me.” She let out a small laugh.
“Usually people attempt to talk to a person before they make
that assumption.”
“Well, considering I’ve been calling you for months, and you ignore my calls—” She took a step back and shook her head.
A look of hurt moved across Ryn’s face as she slowly said, “You’re seeing … another … girl.”
“It’s not like that. We are kind of off and on. I mean … I’m not seeing her right now.” She rolled her eyes before looking into mine.
“Do you have any idea how much you hurt me?”
My heart felt like it was physically hurting as I swallowed and said, “I just thought
… I wasn’t planning on—” I looked away and then back into her eyes.
“I thought you just wanted to have fun, Ryn. Then you started acting different
and I started having these feelings and … I was confused.”
Anger replaced the hurt in her eyes. “The only thing that confused you is why you
brought the wrong girl to meet mom and dad.”
She turned and began walking into the house. I wanted to call out for her but I
couldn’t. My heart felt like it was squeezing in my chest as I stood there and
listened to her retreating footsteps.
I turned and stared out at the dark ocean again. That’s what my heart felt like.A dark deep sea of … darkness.

Beauty from Pain Excerpt
Jack McLachlan’s POV
I sit in the dark corner and scan the room like a starved predator searching for prey. I haven’t chosen her yet, but the woman who will share my bed for the next few months is in this room right now. I watch a lovely blond approach my table. “What can I bring you?” Hmm. A waitress—not at all my usual taste.
I have a type. Attractive. Mature. Refined. This barmaid meets the attractive requirement well enough, but she’s void of refinement or maturity as displayed by her choice of apparel—a white, barely there tank top and frazzled cutoff denim shorts. She doesn’t do it for me. Plus, my last two companions were blond. I want a different flavor this time, but no redheads. I want a brunette. A beautiful one. I remind myself I’m not in Sydney where I have an endless variety of sophisticated women from which to choose. My choices are more limited in the small town of Wagga Wagga, but that doesn’t mean I have to settle for the first attractive woman I see.
“I’ll have a Shiraz.” I’m prepared for a more prolonged relationship this time—three whole months instead of the usual three or four weeks. I’m looking forward to keeping this one around a little longer, and that’s all the more reason to be certain I make a wise choice. I begin my search of the club with the first table toward the front of the room. A brunette beauty sits with a group of women. I watch her for a while, but decide she’s too friendly with the woman sitting next to her. Lesbians aren’t in my repertoire. I spend the next hour scanning the club and come up empty-handed. I’m discouraged. No one stands out as the one and this club is by far my best bet for meeting single women in this town. Maybe I should consider coming back another time when it’s not open mic night. Tonight, the place is crawling with boozed college students. Tonight’s search has been a failure, but at least the karaoke was entertaining. I’m finishing off the last of my wine before I leave when an announcer from the club takes the stage and asks for the next singer to step forward. A small group of people across the room nominates one of its own. My view of the poor bastard is blocked by the crowd of intoxicated kids standing between us, but I’m certain this is going to be another delightful train wreck.
The club erupts into cheer and chants. “Do. It. Do. It. Do. It.” A young woman walks onto the stage and stands with her back to the crowd as she lifts a guitar from its stand. She lifts its strap over her head and then tosses her long brown hair over one shoulder. When she’s finished settling the guitar into place, she circles around and sits on the stool in the middle of the stage.
She’s beautiful. And somehow overlooked during my search. She’s wearing a short ivory dress and a denim jacket with brown cowgirl boots. She bares her thighs as she lifts her feet to rest on the bottom rail, but she’s careful to push her dress between her legs so she doesn’t provide a peep show to the crowd. She strums the borrowed guitar a few times and then leans into the microphone. “Is everyone having a good time tonight?” She’s
American. I think. Her accent sounds different—not like what I’ve heard in the past.
The crowd erupts into a drunken cheer and I hear a man’s voice yell over the crowd, “It’s better now, sweet thing!”
She smiles and adjusts the mic. “I’m not from around here. It’s my first night in Australia.”
“Leave with me and I’ll make you feel right at home!” a man shouts from the back of the room. She ignores the fat, ugly bastard yelling at her. “I don’t know what kind of music Australians like, but this has been one of my favorites for as long as I can remember.” She strums a few more chords. “This is ‘Crash Into Me’ by the Dave Matthews Band.”
She sings it slower than the original, putting her own twist on it. Her voice is raspy and sexy, her eyes closed. She oozes eroticism. She tilts her head and opens her eyes when she begins to sing the chorus. I swear it feels like she’s looking right in my direction, singing to me. “Oh, and you come craasshh … into me. And I come into … you … And I come into you … in a boy’s dream … in a boy’s dream.”
The stage lights shine in her face and common sense tells me she can’t see me sitting in the dark corner at the back of the club, but that doesn’t stop me from hoping.

She finishes the chorus and shuts her eyes again. Her long legs bounce against the rail of the stool to keep rhythm and I fall victim to her siren’s song. She has bewitched me. And I want her. She’s the one.

Georgia resides in rural Mississippi with her wonderful
husband, Jeff, and their two beautiful daughters. She spent fourteen years as a
labor and delivery nurse before she decided to pursue her dream of becoming an
author and hasn’t looked back yet.
When she’s not writing, she’s thinking about writing. When
she’s being domestic, she’s listening to her iPod and visualizing scenes for
her current work in progress. Every story coming from her always has a song to
inspire it.

Sometimes, the thing you want belongs to someone else…

Jack – Once upon a time I had everything. The perfect family. The perfect life. In one horrible year, it went away. I can never have it back but I can hurt the man responsible for taking what was left. I know how to steal something even more important from him. He doesn’t see how she looks at me instead of him. I can make her burn for me, make her addicted to me before I send her back.

And it will be so easy.

Tora – I’ll cross any line to get to the truth, no matter who I have to hurt. I don’t have a choice. I’m not afraid to use sex to get what I want. I know you think that makes me a whore. But until you understand what’s at stake, you can’t know.

Don’t judge me until you do.

Sometimes, you have to take what you want no matter what it costs.

excerpt

Jack leaned in the doorway of the study giving me a cool smirk and my blood simmered. I’d been so careless. My mind spun, trying to weave the lie that might satisfy Jack as to why I was in this room alone. I didn’t belong here and he knew it. Seth accepted my lies so easily. Jack, I suspected, was a different species altogether.

“You seem to have a habit of sneaking up on me,” I said. He was casual, I would be too.

“You seem to have a habit of sneaking off,” he said. He moved away from the door and came toward me.

“She didn’t like me very much, your stepmother,” I said. I would stick to as much of the truth as I dared. He doesn’t know anything, I reminded myself. Until five minutes ago, I’d been careful.

“Me either,” Jack said. He was no more than a foot away from me. He had his hands in the pockets of his dress pants, making his suit jacket lay open. His crisp, white shirt stretched across his broad, strong chest. “Were you not good enough for her little boy, Seth?”

I sat back on the desk, crossing my arms in front of me I let my bare feet dangle. I had tossed my shoes in a heap by the door. Out there, I owned the dress Seth made me wear. It served my purpose to act as his trophy. In here though, it was just Jack. And he had a way of looking through me that made me feel naked.

“I didn’t know her very long,” I said. “She barely knew me before she died. I didn’t take her opinions personally.”

When Jack smiled, his eyes flashed. “You think you would have survived if she had?”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean…how long have you been engaged to Seth? Two months, three? My guess is she was just starting to do her number on you.”

“Maybe,” I said. “But, like I said. I didn’t it take personally. I find a lot of people make assumptions about me at their peril.”

Jack nodded. “I think I can see that.”

“So what were you hoping to find by sneaking off back here?” I said. The second I said it, I knew I’d found my hook. Jack’s eyes darkened.

“Just looking around,” he said. “You know this wasn’t originally Miranda’s house. My father bought it for my real mother just a few months before she passed away. We never lived here though. It needed renovations. Miranda ended up doing them. What do you think of the place?”

“It’s big,” I said. A pulse beat toward Jack’s throat and I wondered if that was his tell. It beast faster as soon as he started talking about his real mother. “I think I would have gone with a more modern, less ostentatious flare.”

Jack nodded. “Maybe you’ll still get the chance. That’s what you’re after isn’t it with Seth? The money. The house. That’s the rumor everyone’s spinning.” His words were cruel but his eyes held mischief.

It was bait I was smart enough not to take. So, I cast my own. “What are you after? Seth got everything didn’t he? The money. The house. But you…you’ve always done fine on your own haven’t you? What could Seth possibly have that you still want?”

I smiled and tucked my hair behind my ear. Something in Jack’s expression shifted when I did it. He froze, the smirk melted off his face and a shadow came over him. He moved in close and cupped his hand around the back of my head, tilting it sideways. His breath was hot against my cheek. Until now, it was Miranda’s scent, Miranda’s presence that filled my senses in this house. In an instant, Jack Manning wiped all of that away.

I misread the gesture as he came close to me. Or maybe I didn’t. But, when Jack’s skin touched mine, it ignited something that I’d known was there from the second I saw him. My flesh burned hot where he touched me. I took in his clean, musky scent. My eyes locked with his. His brown eyes widened and flashed, seeing something in mine that he maybe hadn’t expected.

I could say I don’t know why I did it. I could say it just happened. But that would be yet another lie. I wanted him. I wanted something that was real even if it was just for one moment.

Jack brushed my earlobe with his thumb and I brought my hands up, sliding them across his shoulders and up along the back of his neck. I drew him down to me and brought my lips to his.

I kissed him.

There was the slightest tension in his arms but then he responded. Jack pulled me against him so every part of me touched him. I might have been naked since I had only the thin silk of my dress protecting my skin from his touch. His chest was firm and warm, his skin hot under my fingers as I drew him down even closer. As I pulled him forward, his weight pressed me further on the desk. He kissed me back slow and deep, his tongue probing, his lips a feathery touch against mine. He was holding back. When he finally broke away, the pulse at his throat beat furiously. My chest heaved as I tried to catch my breath.

Jack didn’t say anything but kept his eyes locked with mine until he took two steps backward and turned toward the door. He took the knob in his hand and for an instant, I thought he was leaving. Instead, he quietly closed the door and engaged the lock. Then, he turned back toward me, his eyes smoldering. Heat flared between my legs as he came back to me with four strong strides.

Meet the Author

Like most authors, I’ve been writing stories all my life in my head. What I try to bring to the page is what I love about the stories I read. Strong heroines, snappy dialogue, interesting predicaments. Throw that all in with some scorching sex scenes and I’m hooked. My real life is far less daring. My husband and I are in the process of rearing a small herd of children. I’m a lawyer, media consultant, band mom theatre mom, football mom, wrestling mom. As a result, my favorite recipes come with Costco labels. We live in the beautiful Irish Hills area of Michigan on a lake where our interesting neighbors always keep us entertained, my husband makes his own wine, and the fish are always biting.

I squealed as Brack flipped us over dislodging my hands. He was hard again. Or maybe his erection never left. I sat back on his thighs and admired his cock. Placing my fingers around the head, I squeezed gently.

“Harder,” he said with lust in his voice.

“Mmm, I want to suck.”

“What’s stopping you?” he asked gruffly.

I gripped harder like he asked. “I want you shooting off in my pussy this time.”

He closed his eyes for a moment. “Suck me first and that can be arranged.”

I didn’t care that I was a sticky mess. I wiggled off him until my knees hit the floor. He moved down a bit so I could comfortably reach him with my mouth. He propped himself on his arms and watched. I stuck my tongue out and licked just the tip. I didn’t always like the taste of men but Brack was yummy. When I’d sucked his cum from my fingers, I’d wanted to go back for seconds. I flicked my tongue against him watching his reaction. It wasn’t much. I knew he liked it hard. I wrapped my lips around the head and sucked a little as I circled his balls with one hand and his cock with the other.

Saliva pooled in my mouth as I took him deeper. At the same time, I put additional pressure around his cock. My lips met my fingers and I sucked while bobbing my head. His groan had me tightening my fingers even harder.

“I want to grab your hair but I’m afraid I’ll hurt your head,” he moaned out on a ragged breath.

His cock slipped from my mouth as I looked up. He stared at the stream of saliva between his dick and my lips. I smiled. “I’m fine, do what feels good.”

His eyes met mine as he placed his fingers in my hair and pushed my mouth to his cock again. I opened wide and took him deeper.

“Fuck me you’re good at this.”

I didn’t take it the wrong way—I was good at this. The second lover in my life, an Australian tennis pro, spent a lot of time teaching me fellatio. He wasn’t into returning the favor frequently and I finally kicked him to the sideline. He came out of the closet a year ago and it all made sense. But who better to teach about blowjobs than a gay man? I didn’t feel comfortable enough to practice my skills with most of the men I slept with. Brack was different. I wanted his cock. And like most things in my life, I took what I wanted.

SEDUCING LAUREN

EXCERPT:

“Okay, plug them in.”

I run to the porch and plug in the lights, then run back into the front yard to see them.

“Oh, they’re so pretty!”

“Thank God they all work,” he says as he tosses the black shoe down to the ground and then moves carefully down to the ladder. “It would be a bitch to have to take them back down.”

“I checked them,” I assure him, and when his foot finally lands safely on the snow and he turns to me, I hit him on the arm. “You shouldn’t have done that! You took ten years off my life!”

I throw my arms around his torso and squeeze him tightly, then back away.

“No, you shouldn’t have been on that ladder. If I catch you on one again, I’ll spank your ass until it glows.”

My jaw drops as I gaze up into his frustrated face. For once in my life, I’m speechless. I scowl as I pull myself together and clench my fists. “You wouldn’t dare . . .”

“Put yourself in danger again and see if I don’t,” he replies calmly and crosses his arms over his chest.

“Did you come here to bully me?”

He sighs and pulls his beanie off his head, pushing his fingers through the messy brown strands. I want to sink my fingers in that thick, dark hair.

“No. I came because you won’t answer your fucking phone so I can apologize for the other night.”

“I don’t want your apology,” I reply and throw the extra lights and staple gun back into the tote and turn away, but he catches my arm and turns me back to him, takes the tote, and sets it down.

“I’m going to give it anyway.” His jaw is firm. “I had no right to kiss you like that in the parking lot for everyone to see.”

I jerk back, mortified. “You’re apologizing for kissing me?”
