#Review Good Boy by @SarinaBowen and @ElleKennedy #BookRelease #WAG

If you loved Jamie Channing and Ryan Wesley in Him and Us, then come meet Blake Riley in Good Boy.

MEET THE WAGS!

GOOD BOY (WAGS #1)

Hosting her brother’s wedding for an MVP guest list is the challenge of Jess Canning’s life. Already the family screw-up, she can’t afford to fail. And nobody (nobody!) can learn of the colossal mistake she made with the best man during a weak moment last spring. It was wrong, and there will not be a repeat. Absolutely not. Even if he is the sexiest thing on two legs.

Blake Riley sees the wedding as fate’s gift to him. Jess is the maid of honor and he’s the best man? Let the games begin. So what if he’s facing a little (fine, a lot) of resistance? He just needs to convince the stubborn blonde that he’s really a good boy with a bad rap. Luckily, every professional hockey player knows that you’ve got to make an effort if you want to score.

But Jess has more pressing issues to deal with than sexy-times with a giant man-child. Such as: Will the ceremony start on time, even though someone got grandma drunk? Does glitter ever belong at a wedding? And is it wrong to murder the best man?

Warning: Do not read while sipping hot liquids. Or cold ones. Or while sitting anywhere laughter would be inappropriate. Contains hot but hilarious hockey players, puppies and a snarky pair of underwear.

My Review of Good Boy

I didn’t know Blake had it in him. When we last saw Blake, he was the obnoxious team mate of Wes’ and living right upstairs from Jamie and Wes, he was almost the third roommate. He even got on MY nerves. So I was a little hesitant to read his story but coming from Sarina  Bowen and Elle Kennedy, I knew it had to be good and I was SO right.

I love that another book about Wes and Jamie was written, but even more pleased that Blake starred in this one. I can say that now AFTER I read it.

In Us, I wasn’t sure if I could trust Blake. He was a big doof ball who was always getting in the way. Even Jesse cals him out on it, he’s loud, mouthy and too cheerful at times. (As if that’s a bad thing?) But in the end, he truly cared about Wes and Jamie. In this book, he meets up with Jesse, one of Jamie’s older sisters, at the wedding of Jamie and Wes. Even though they had a one time fling, Blake still has the hots for her and as hard as she resists Blake, his crazy charm wears off. Eventually.

I love seeing the true Blake. While he’s big, clumsy and obnoxious at times, he truly cares for his friends and family. He would do anything for them and he goes to great lengths to protect his family too, even at his own expense. The REAL Blake is a GOOD guy. He is sweet and confident. I love his conversations earlier in the book. He knows Jesse will come around. His way of thinking is comical. I found myself laughing when his point of view (POV) was shared.

Jesse is a mess when this book starts. She needs a do over. She needs a new career. Currently, she is in the Wedding Planning business and she hates it, even though she is good at it. She enlists the help of her friend Dyson, yes, like the vacuum, who seems to be her sounding board and her pick me up when she is down. The best kind of friend to have. He helps her figure out what she wants to do, but it costs money, something she doesn’t have. When she finally decides on her next career path it forces her to cross paths with Blake, Jamie and Wes again. While Jamie and Wes take their sister under their wing Blake is ready to give her the world. But Jesse must be on the same page with Blake before she does. Two things stand in the way though, Jesse is NOT good at relationships and her main focus is her new career choice.

These two characters are written so well. Crazy, funny and never serious, Blake’s lines are perfect for his character. And I mean perfect. His mannerisms and actions, his attitude about life are all so perfect for his character. He worries about what’s important, takes care of his family, has good values and just has fun. Period. Jesse has a lot of confidence issues and again, she’s very well written too. She needs little things to boost her confidence as she second guesses herself after every stepping stone in her new career path. She has a very important conversation that changes things for her, makes her feel much better and that opens the doors for her in many ways. Yet they balance each other somehow. Like in the hospital visit to see Leila.

I’m happy to read about the hockey team again. Happy to have more Jamie and Wes and see their interactions and learn about a new dimension to the team. This story line was very well thought out and thoroughly researched giving credibility to the story. My opinion of Blake has changed. He is crazy hot and fun and perfect for Jesse.

About Cat Montmorency:

Cat Montmorency grew up reading every book she could get her hands on, and pining after the ones she couldn’t. She’s been everything from lifeguard to riding instructor to high school math teacher, but discovered that being a ninja gamer-girl and out-of-the-closet die-hard romantic who writes things was much more fun. If pressed, she’ll describe herself as a Southern Belle with a geek complex and a fetish for well-crafted words.

Ever since her college boyfriend tried to add her to his list of murder victims, she’s lived a quiet life, which is code for no life at all. She nodded, eyes flickering between him and the crop he waved in circles in front of her.
“She knew exactly what would happen if she brought you here. It was her idea. Now do you really think she’d do that if she didn’t think you not only could, but would enjoy it?”
The thought stunned her for a moment. Kara, who knew every secret she’d ever had. Knew her strengths and weaknesses, and things she didn’t even know about herself. Who somehow knew all the words she didn’t say. Broken. Worthless. Unworthy of love, of happiness.
“Take the crop, ma chère.”
Moira shook her head, but her hand was already reaching out. She felt a surge of something unknown as her hand closed on the handle, but whether that was from the act of taking it, or the flash of Adrian’s green eyes, she wasn’t sure.
He deftly unbuttoned his vest and laid it with his jacket before moving on to his shirt. “I told you the key to control is trust. You have to trust yourself first, Moira, if you want to find any kinda control in your life.” The last button of his shirt slid through its hole, and the fabric slid off to reveal a chiseled swimmer’s body. He stepped toward her, and she forced herself to stand her ground. He stopped two steps from her and waited.
“What am I supposed to do?”
His eyes flashed. “Anything you wish. Hit me. Hurt me. Or not, as you choose.”
She swallowed nervously and looked at the crop. “I don’t know how to do this.”
“Oui, you do.”
He stood frozen, hands clasped in front of his waist, eyes boring into her. It unnerved her. “Stop looking at me,” she whispered.
“Excusez-moi?”
“I said, stop looking at me.”
She wasn’t sure where the commanding tone had come from, a spark of anger still alive under the mountains and years of resignation, but his eyes immediately dropped to the floor. His mouth twitched, almost smiling.
“Yes, Mistress.”
The surge of power that accompanied those two simple words almost knocked her over. She was glad he’d said them in English, instead of the half French half something the local Cajuns tended to use. And she knew in that moment he might be right. Not only was it possible that she could do this, she might even enjoy it. Moira gave a hesitant grin and trailed the tip of the crop down the centerline of his chest. He was beautiful, really. Such tone in his muscles. And it had been so long since any man had looked at her that way.
And he was standing there, waiting for her to tell him what to do.
I can do this. I can.
“Kneel.”
He knelt. God, the way that felt.

** I received an ARC for an honest review **

When I read the synopsis of this book I was quite excited to read and review this book. The synopsis grabbed me and pulled me in to the dark underground world in New Orleans along with Moira, Kara and the oh so hot Adrian.

The story opens with Moira and Kara having a pity party with movies and ice cream as their guests. This sounds like a regular date for Moira. Kara is the one that knows how to live and enjoy life while Moira is locked up in her apartment. We later learn why her apartment became her security blanket. Kara finally encouraged her to come out with her to a small club. Little does Moira know what Kara’s motive really was when she brought her there. Trying to breathe life back into her again.

Kara and Moira have been best friends since the girls were young. Kara has seen Moira through some of life’s most difficult tragedies when Moira’s family was absent. Kara became her family. Kara became her life and her breath bringing her back to the Moira she was before her nightmares began.

Kara finally gets Moira to go out one night. At the bar Kara takes her to, Moira meets Adrian LaCroix, master of the local underground kink scene, but she doesn’t know who he is yet. He is hot, sexy and she is starting to discover feelings she thought were buried away. He elicits warm, wet feelings she is afraid to feel. His sexy Cajun accent his commanding presence intrigue her and help her to find the courage she lost. Adrian has a way of helping her find herself while knowing just what she needs to find happiness. At the same time she struggles with her feelings for her best friend wondering if she will always need to rely on her and not give Kara the friendship in return that Moira has benefited from.

Adrian LaCroix plays a very important role in Kara’s and soon Moira’s life. Since he is the master of the local underground kink scene, he is well known throughout the city of New Orleans. Adrian has many connections with the locals and takes care of his own. There is no lack of hot BDSM scenes in this story. A few scenes are detailed in a very beautiful way. Adrian introduces Moira to this world, Kara’s world, and soon helps Moira find her place there training to be a Domme and later a Domenatrix. He takes Moira on as his protege and helps her mentally and physically escape her demons. Their sex scenes are pretty hot too, seeing who tops who each time.

The story moves at a good pace. Knowing it was about BDSM I wanted to jump right into a scene but realized I lacked the story line and details needed to enjoy the book. My attention stayed throughout the book even causing me to have a “book hangover” the last night until 4:00am. The story was climaxing and I HAD to find out what the result was and how Kara’s decision was going to effect Moira.

I loved the character development and the trickling of information about Moira’s past. It kept me wanting more and more. The deeper I traveled into the story the more invested I became. Having traveled to New Orleans recently also peeked my interest as some of the sites and activities mentioned in the book were reminiscent of our trip. I almost felt like I could see the characters on the trolley car and walking in the Garden District dressed all fancy to meet Adrian. Oh Adrian.

Cat brought in local dialogue and some french language with Adrian’s character. While it was sexy to read, it was complicated to continually copy and paste so I could translate and read what he was saying. I would have loved more translations in his sentences or a guide in the back of the book to the Cajun sayings and their meanings. I am sure what the kindle translator wrote was not at times exactly what Cat meant to say, my mind had to improvise and use the words I think she meant Adrian to say.

I look forward to the next book in the series. I am sure it will be just as hot and steamy as this one. Especially if Adrian is still there enjoying his subs. I am always excited to read a great book from an author I have never met.

This book reminds me of an author I found after 50 Shades and have loved ever since. Another reviewer thought the same as well. I am pleased to say this book, with the kink and dominatrix, reminds me of Tiffany Reisz’s Original Sinners Series of books. I hope Cat has the same success with her series of books. They are hot, steamy and will grab you in to meet Adrian, Kara and Moira. Well done!

A Gentleman’s Memoir (The Gentleman’s Series Volume 3) By AJ Linn

AGM- Front Cover RGB  He does it again!  Another fabulous book by AJ Linn.  This is the third book in The Gentleman’s Series, the one that tells the reader about Donovan Hart BEFORE  the book, A Gentleman’s Affair.  It will answer your questions about the Underground, the voyeuristic behavior, and the girls. Oh the girls. And the girls and girls and girls.

Once again, AJ Linn has enlisted the help of his readers to write characters into his story.  The characters were Donovan’s “women” that we read about throughout the book.  I can say that I personally had fun creating my character or characters as they turned out to be.  I did as AJ asked, wrote my characters with a little background so he would understand what I had in mind when I created them.  But, when I handed them over I knew they were then his to do with as he wished.  And boy did he surprise me!  He had told me loved the character submission and when I read what he wrote about them I was blown away.  He is truly a talented and amazing author.  Writing characters into your story is not an easy task and knowing what I do about these books gives me a greater respect and appreciation for what an author does when he puts himself “out there” like this for his readers.  Thank you AJ.  I for one, have loved reading 2 books with my characters written into the story line. A Gentleman’s Secret (The Gentleman’s Series Volume 2) By AJ Linn

He did it again.  Brought us another incredible book continuing the story of Donovan and Scarlett.

Book 2 in the Gentleman’s Series by AJ Linn

A Gentleman's Secret- Front RGB

Donovan Hart has finally found his unico vero amore’ in the beautiful Scarlett Montgomery, but the question remains…will he be able keep her?

Will his secret be too much for her to handle, or…will hers be too much for him to handle?

A Gentleman’s Secret is an unpredictable ride full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end.

 72px.goodreads

Here is my review.  Another 5 Star Rating for me!       pink5If you fell in love with Donovan Hart in “A Gentleman’s Affair” you will love him even more (if that’s possible, but it is) in “A Gentleman’s Secret.” This book shows a softer, more human side of the rich playboy who has fallen in love. A love that grows between him and Scarlett is simply that, love. True love. When you love someone you shouldn’t need anything else, right? But it seems secrets can get in the way. Are Donovan and Scarlett strong enough to overcome the secrets? Something we have all struggled with at some point in our own lives, I’m sure. Being honest with someone we love.
